Natural Tanning of Leather

Create your own Buckskin in this 3-day Workshop

Creating soft and subtle leather from the gifts of nature is an ancient craft, which you can still learn today.

In this class with Markus Klek from Germany, you will experience the transformation of a raw deer skin into a lasting piece of leather without the use of harmful chemicals.

All it takes are the gifts of nature, traditional know-how and some elbow grease.

The method taught in this workshop is commonly referred to as “Braintanning” and is generally associated with North American indigenous cultures. It uses animal brains and smoke for the tanning process, creating a soft and stretchy leather ideal for the production of garments and accessories .

As a small group, we will be working outside with a set of simple hand tools.

Bring working clothes and rubber gloves if you like.

You need to be at least 16 years of age and in good physical condition, as tanning is a lot of work.

During the course, a full organic board is provided (cooked by Riina) including brunch, lunch, dinner, snacks, tea and coffee (for an addition of €35).

The class will be held in English.
